FED:Oppn glad childcare rebate will stay

The federal opposition says families will sleep easier knowing the generous childcare
rebate won't be targeted in the May budget.

Federal Treasurer WAYNE SWAN has reportedly ruled out a Treasury proposal to means-test
the rebate .. capped at seven thousand 500 dollars a year .. to help deliver budget savings.

News Limited reports Mr SWAN decided against the politically risky move .. following
a marathon session with his budget razor-gang yesterday.

The coalition's childcare spokeswoman SUSSAN LEY has welcomed the apparent back-flip
.. describing the proposal to cut the rebate as a ham-fisted cash grab.
